Cal Sailing Club members gather on Sunday mornings to race Lidos. The competition is friendly but not lax. Racing at CSC is an excellent way for new sailors to learn some of the finer points of sailing and for experienced sailors to hone their skills.
Club keelboats are also raced during races held at the Berkeley Yacht Club, Friday nights during the summer, and Chowder races during the winter months.
Laser and Byte races are held occasionally in the summer on Sunday afternoons, if there is sufficient interest.

Sunday Morning Racing
Races are held most every Sunday of the year, weather and tide permitting. The only time races "might" be cancelled is if there is a raging gale or the tide is too low: CSC tides

The Sunday morning experience at the Cal Sailing Club can be legendary. Any CSC Junior Skipper who passes the rules test can drive; any member (even unrated) may crew. Members who just passed their Junior Skipper test might be up against some of the local hot shots. All competitors race the same one-design (a CSC Lido), where boats are essentially equal, and boat handling and tactics rein supreme. And sometimes luck... After every race skippers rotate boats, to further eliminate any equipment differences. A race usually takes 15 or 20 minutes, but there may be more mark roundings, tactical decisions, and close encounters with other boats than would occur in an all-day race over a much longer course. Usually there are 4 to 8 races, so by 1 PM when it's over, skippers (and crew) can be mentally exhausted. For a dinghy racing junkie, Sunday morning at the CSC is a very satisfying fix.
Weekly scores and reports are posted by the Racing Chair. If you want to be added to the mailing list for Sunday Morning Racing, or want further information, please contact:
